As your child develops and grows, they do so within an increasingly competitive world; a world where—for many of our students—excellent leadership skills will be a real asset. In an effort to better prepare LANNA students to meet future life challenges, we provide them with many ways to develop and demonstrate these essential leadership skills.
Since 2013, we have offered the wonderful Duke of Edinburgh ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Award to students fourteen years and older. This is a very popular option, with many of our students putting themselves forward to begin working towards the first level, the Bronze Award, and many more, senior students, working towards gaining the prestigious Silver and Gold Awards.
The Duke of Edinburgh ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Award & Leadership Opportunities at LANNA
The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Award is a globally recognised certificate that allows students to gain recognition for skills and abilities that can often be overlooked in an academic setting. It also provides self-motivated students with a qualification that can really help set them apart. More importantly though, the award is designed to be a personal challenge and not a contest against others. Self-motivation and sustained commitment are rewarded through the Duke of Edinburgh ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Award—admirable qualities that make this such a worthwhile, and for some, a life-changing experience. There is no such thing as failure in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Award—just taking part is a win, with new skills and new experiences available to all.
Year 12 & Year 13 Sports Leadership Opportunities
For our Y12/13 students who have an interest in leadership, we also offer a course in Sports Leadership. This is designed to use sport and physical activity to help them develop and hone their leadership skills whilst allowing them to stay physically active.
Our students have great things to say about these leadership-developing options and it is exciting to see them thrive as they dive into new opportunities to lead. We are looking forward to seeing many more of these young leaders develop the confidence to take on important roles in our school. Whether they join our wonderfully active Student Council, take on leading experiences they set up for younger students, or through the many chances to showcase their talents—like taking on major roles at our Secondary Camp—there are plenty of options for older students to develop key leadership skills.
Among many other benefits of learning good leadership skills, empowered young leaders rate highly for confidence, motivation and organisation—developing and embedding these traits is a great thing!
