We are very pleased to be able to announce another very successful set of Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A level exam results.
Our dedicated and hard working teachers must be commended in the many ways that they have supported students to do their very best, and, of course, the students themselves congratulated on the hard work that they have put in to realise their potential.
Results from CIE鈥檚 June 2017 Examinations
- IGCSE passes at C or above 鈥 91% 聽(up from 85% last year)
- AS level passes (A to E) 鈥 95% (up from 78% last year); with 35% at A grade
- A level passes (A to E) 鈥 88% (slightly down from 93% last year)
These results, at both IGCSE and AS/A level, are results that we have good reason to be very proud of. The student intake at Lanna is not selected on academic ability, and all students with the language skills required to access our courses are given the opportunity to do so; and to enter for examinations. We choose to provide the best possible examination opportunities for ALL of our students.
Some Highlights
The overall percentages do not always tell the whole story and it is worth highlighting some outstanding performances:
- One student in Y12, with still one more year left at Lanna, passed 聽A level Mathematics one year early, with the top grade possible, an A*, and passed four other AS levels with top grades (grade A, there is no A* at AS level) 鈥 Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Music. Perhaps most impressive is that this student did this as a non-native English speaker who joined Lanna seven years ago with very limited English skills.
- Five of our 25 AS level candidates gained three or more AS level passes at A grade, and many more students were very close to achieving this very high level of success.
- 100% of our 21 Y11 students gained a double pass in IGCSE Coordinated Science, all apart from two passed IGCSE Mathematics, and all except one candidate passed their IGCSE First Language English examination.
- 100% of our Y11 students passed five or more IGCSEs at C or above (compared to 60% for five GCSE passes in UK last year), with a large majority passing eight or more subjects.
We are proud of the successes of all of our students. It鈥檚 easy to be proud of the 鈥渉igh-flying鈥 students鈥 results but we are equally proud of many of our students who worked extremely hard for lower level passes.
We are a small school where students are treated as individuals and it has been heart warming for me to see, and hear, how proud our teachers are of those who struggled hard to gain lower level passes 鈥 and got there through strength of character and unremitting determination. Success in life is not all about A grades, and I offer special congratulations to those students – you know who you are. Very well done, your grit will serve you well in life.
