As a Schoolwide Learning Outcome (SLO), LANNA aims for all of our students to become global citizens by demonstrating awareness and sensitivity with respect to their own and others鈥 cultures and abilities.聽
Although LANNA is a British-curriculum international school, we are very proud of our cultural diversity amongst both staff and students. With this aim in mind, the Humanities Department organised a number of exciting, perspective-broadening activities: a Parent-Teacher Organisation (PTO) sponsored multi-cultural food sales fundraiser; traditional music and dance performances; 鈥淢ufti-cultural鈥 dress day; special lunch menus; daily homeroom quizzes, games, and videos; and the culminating event鈥攐ur first-ever LANNA Model United Nations Conference. With 140 LANNA students participating, our student-led public speaking organisation (LIPSO) should feel very proud of their efforts to make this MUN conference a resounding success.
Another aspect of LANNA鈥檚 Global Citizen SLO is for our graduates ultimately to 鈥…become responsible global citizens who recognise how the actions of individuals and societies have consequences.鈥 Thanks to our PTO members鈥 and volunteer parents鈥 time and financial support, as well as the donations of students throughout the week, we were very grateful to be able to donate 10,000 THB to the Warm Heart Foundation鈥檚 Stop the Smoke campaign in order to combat the seasonal air pollution that affects all of us in Chiang Mai.聽
We aim for LANNA students to take action in their communities both now and in the future to solve problems and make positive contributions to society at large. It鈥檚 our hope that these Humanities Week activities will serve as a guide and reminder for LANNA students going forward to be open-minded, to develop genuine empathy, and to be courageous enough to take initiative to make a positive difference in the world. That鈥檚 what it means to be a global citizen.
