LANNA students, along with those from eight other international schools, participated in the Chiang Mai Model United Nations (CMMUN) conference hosted by Prem Tinsulanonda ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School in Mae Rim. Continuing a tradition that has now lasted more than fifteen years, Lanna students researched, drafted resolutions, negotiated agreements, and gave speeches on pressing world issues. Among the topics considered at this conference were: civil wars in Yemen and Libya, human trafficking, persecution of religious minorities, Islamic terrorism, the ethics of mass surveillance, genetically modified foods, deforestation, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and the militarization of outer space.
Lanna ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School Thailand students enjoyed much success at the recent Chiang Mai Model United Nations conference held at Prem Tinsulanonda ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School on 3 March. Rebecca (Year 10) served as Chair of the Human Rights Council session, while Tony M. (Year 12) served as Chair of the Security Council. Alice (Year 9) was named Best New Delegate of the Human Rights Council, Lucy (Year 12) was named Best New Delegate of the Economic and Social Council, and Zhuli (Year 10) was named Best New Delegate of the Security Council. Tony M. (Year 12) was named Best Delegate of the General Assembly, earning the top distinction out of a field of over 150 participants. Altogether, Lanna had 46 delegates and four pages (assistants). 35 of our participants were first-timers and they did terrific work preparing, participating, and representing our school with pride. We are very proud of these hardworking delegates and our student leadership for another successful conference! The next CMMUN conference will be held in November at Chiang Mai ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School.
