As you are already aware, Lanna offers secondary students a one to one Lenovo laptop that is currently in the second year of rollout that has pre-installed applications that are both manageable and offer considerable added value in the learning process. Next academic year will see the current year 9 and year 6 students utilising these devices in lessons.
Why we chose to introduce laptops for Secondary students
The 21st Century with its globalisation and technological dependency has brought with it the need for an awareness of a range of ICT skills. It is undeniable that our students are going to require skills in information and technological literacy in order to solve problems, rise to challenges, collaborate effectively whilst giving them the opportunity to reflect on concepts learnt. Students use the laptops in most lessons in a variety of ways to enable ‘anytime, anywhere’ learning whilst resources can be accessed whenever and wherever they are needed, including from home so that students can submit work and complete tasks and get teacher feedback through Google Classroom.
Access to a variety of emerging devices
The development of collaborative learning habits and skills will be of great benefit to Lanna students’ future in the workplace. It is just as important that students are provided the opportunity to access to a variety of emerging technologies so that informed decision making can take place as technology continues to develop. I addition to library laptops, raspberry Pi and arduino robotics have now been introduced here and there is an exciting development for next academic year when tablets are to be introduced as a further bookable resource for Primary School use, utilising Google Apps for Education.
